The new Canon EOS 6D (WG) has been released a month ago. the WG means building in WIFI and GPS features in the 6D body.

IMG_3261The 6D has a few improves from the older brother 5DMKII, For example, the quiet shutter, better noise reduction performance and better hight light reproduction. And it also uses a same battery as 5DMKII, however the 6D can only use SD memory instead of the most faster CF memory card. The useful white balance button has been removed from on top of the 6D body which is a bit disappointed.

Today, I tested the EOS 6D’s built in GPS accuracy in location, the result shows pretty good after imported in Lightroom 4.3.

The GPS function is easily turn on/off in camera setting menu. However, every time the GPS setting is on, it takes a few minutes to get GPS signal sync even in field. I didn’t test its battery consumption, but it would reduce a bit of battery life for shooting when it is on.

Overall, the GPS feature in 6D is quite useful when photographing in a field location.
